On 30th June the Government introduced a £20 application fee for using the new Child Maintenance Service. They expected a 12% drop in the number of applications but the early figures show a 38% fall, three times more than estimated (guessed?).

On 30th June the Government introduced a £20 application fee for using the new Child Maintenance Service. They expected a 12% drop in the number of applications but the early figures show a 38% fall, three times more than estimated (guessed?).

Presumably people did not choose to use money they did not have in the hope that they would get some Child Support. If enforcement is required, further charges will apply.

It may be that these 38% not applying are succeeding in setting up acceptable private arrangements, but you would not bet on that.
